The rate of change is going to be about 8 oz per moth

Well, 16 oz is one pound. 16 * 3 is 48. It's not 16 * 3 +5 because it started out at 5oz. 48 oz in 6 months then. Divide 48 by 6. I believe it is 8oz per month. Not positive though.
