Spanish missionaries had converted and form intermarriages between Spaniards and Native Americans to make it easier for them to colonize the territories. They had taught them to read and write and teach them the technology of the Spanish farming system. Because of these many  Native Americans were converted and they Spaniards were able to conquer some of the territories up North.
