Why is fairtrade chocolate more expensive that normally chocolate?

Fair trade means that the farmers get paid an adequate price. It helps to support small family farms and also ensures that working conditions are safe and the product wasn't grown using child or forced labor. Fair trade products such as chocolate is more expensive to buy because it cost more to grow the cocoa for the final product.
