The area of the blue rectangle is 30 square yards.

The aera of the white rect. is 3.2 sq. yrds.

Subtract 3.2 sq yds from 30 sq yds to obtain the area of the shaded (blue) area.

It's 26.8 sq. yds.

The whole entire region without the hole in the middle would be 30 square yards. All you need to do now is find the area of the inside cut-out and remove it from thirty. 2*1.6 equals 3.2 square yards, so the total area would be 30-3.2 which is equal to 26.8.

Hope this helps and have a great day!
