Coenzymes are organic or inorganic molecules that help in the catalysis process, while the substrate is the substance that is acted upon by the enzyme. Coenzymes work by converting enzymes into an active form from an inactive one. The enzyme then acts on the substrate and either breaks it down or builds it up into a different molecule, which varies from enzyme to enzyme.
