Why is the presence of a dipole in a molecule so important?

The dipole moment is important in water molecules because it allows the molecule to be polar. The oxygen atom is hoarding negative charge and making the hydrogen atoms positive. This allows for the water molecules to form hydrogen bonds with other water molecules.
