15/x = 40/100. Cross multiply to get 1500 = 40x. Divide by 40 on both because you want to isolate the variable. The idem would originally cost $37.50. To check your answer you would substitute your equation and get 15/37.5 = 40/100. Just so you know a decimal can be in a fraction. Cross multiply to get 1500 = 1500.
