Why can't the product of two 2-digit numbers ever be two digits explain

The factors involved naturally place a number in the hundreds space. Consider the smallest two, two digit product.....
10×10=100. The rest of all possible two digit products will all be greater than 100.
10×11=110, 10×12=120, 11×11=121....they only get larger all the way up to 99×99.
