What is the significance of the fact that Athenians allowed a poor and common man to win a position in the government by lot

The significance is that there was more representation (our government is very similar) The idea is that everyone has a voice, and it was important for commonfolk AND rich men to be in governmental positions so that the population was represented more evenly (hope this made some sense! (: )
