A legal case from 1608 that has since been know as Calvins case established that Scottish citizens born after King James I unified Scotland and England were to have all the rights any Englishman was entitled to. There are some scholars who claim these rights would extend to any colonist born in British colonies, so should they ever be robbed they would be compensated.
