Thomas Jefferson accepted Alexander Hamilton's economic plans in exchange for the national capitol ending up in the Virginia area. Prior to that, it was far more likely to end up in the northeast, especially New York City. But, Jefferson and Hamilton found this arrangement mutually beneficial.
