Why doesn't Hurston get angry when she feels that someone is discriminating against her

She doesn't get angry because she didn't realize that her skin was the reason for her discrimination, she grew up in a town where everyone was black so she had never experienced it. So it was so unusual for her, that she took as a strange joke rather than an insult.

Oh boy I just had this question. She doesn't get angry because she doesn't realize that she is a different color. her whole life she grew up in a town where everyone was black. after she realized that she was different she almost took it as a joke rather than an insult.
