Due to the fact that sage plants discrete a a chemical that inhibits other sage plants from growing nearby, it is most likely that sage plants would grow slightly far away from each other. Unlike some plants which will grow in thick areas all clumped together, the sage plant is going to grow in patches covering a larger area. This would most likely cause the sage plant to struggle growing in a pot if there was more than one plant.
