George Washington was the first president of the United States he was elected on February 4, 1789 and was in office during April 30, 1789. He resigned on March 4, 1797 he served 2 terms

The first President of the United States of America (POTUS) was George Washington, from 1789 until 1797.
Many Americans had faith on George Washington not only because he was a decorated war-hero, but also because he would be the first U.S President under the first official U.S Constitution.
