In the decades following the American Revolution, tensions and conflicts arose over economic hardships, the rights and distributions of power between local and national authorities and the protection of the rights of the people. Inflation was high and farmers and land owners were hit hard. Many felt that government had gone wild with taxes in order to try to pay national debt.
