What type of marketing did manufacturers begin to use in the late 1800's?

The late 1800's is known as the "production era" of marketing. It lasted from the 1860's to the 1920's, and entailed lowering costs of production, and therefore lower product costs for consumers as a result of the industrial revolution. Essentially, products were marketed by passing along the cost savings of mass production to consumers.
