Guthrie and Horton found that cats were able to complete a task through behavioral cues. The task end reward would provide a purpose or reward. In the experiment, the cats were able to escape the puzzle box after touching a post. Each time the cats attempted to escape the puzzle box the time that passed got shorter and shorter as the cats learned behaviors to the purpose which was to escape the puzzle box.
