The result of successful communication between Rhizobia and their plant hosts is a symbiotic relationship. The rhizobia creates specialized structures called nodules. In these structures the bacteria converts nitrogen into ammonia, through a process called nitrogen fixation. The plant host then uses the ammonia as a nitrogen source.
