if a cell is isotonic in an 80% sucrose solution, how will the movement of water across the cell membrane affect the size of a cell if it is moved from an 80% sucrose solution to a 40% sucrose solution

The answer is; The cell will increase in size


When the cell is moved is the 40% sucrose solution, the solution will be hypotonic to the cytoplasm of the cell. Therefore, through osmosis, water will move from the sucrose solution to the inside of the cell. In osmosis, water moves from a hypotonic solution to a hypertonic solution through a semi-permeable membrane. If the cell is an animal cell, it may lyse because it has no cell wall to give it structural support.
