ACT math question testing rectangles and ratios (ignore my work in pencil). I know the correct answer is E, but I don't know why. Thanks!

Because look at the length of AE, it is the same as BC, and given that EB is 1, and AE and BC are both 2, if you add AE to EB then it is 3, to BC, which is 2 - KJD857
