The hypotenuse of this triangle is 4Sqrt(2) from the Special Triangles you study.
The altitude is also 2Sqrt(2) because the altitude is an angle bisector of the 90 degree angle which bisects the hypotenuse, and the other 2 angles of the large right triangle are 45 degrees.
