Could the size of soil particles affect life of microorganisms living in the soil

It is very possible. Different sizes of particles in the soil allow for different sizes of air pockets. The larger the pockets (in sandy soil, for example), the larger the organisms that are able to live in the soil. Conversely, smaller pockets can hold fewer organisms or smaller organisms.
