Take add 12 to both sides:
5n-12+12 = 3n+4+12
= 5n = 3n+16
Then take away 3n from both sides:
5n-3n = 3n+16-3n
= 2n = 16
Then divide both sides by 2
2n/2 = 16/2
= n = 8
