While ionic bonds join metals to nonmetals, and covalent bonds join nonmetals to nonmetals, metallic bonds are responsible for the bonding between metal atoms. Inmetallic bonds, the valence electrons from the s and p orbitals of the interacting metal atoms delocalize.
