Which was a motivation behind the issuing of the Monroe Doctrine?

It was to stop Europeans from colonizing in the Americans, mainly the Caribbean. It recognized existing European colonies in the region but stated that if they tried to establish any more colonies in the region, the US would pretty much take that as a threat.
