Proterozoic eon refers to the time just before the beginning of life on the earth. The proterozoic atmosphere was characterized by having oxygen in the atmosphere. This was evident from the fact that many fossil remains of microorganisms and first oxygen dependent animal known as the Ediacara fauna was found in the proterozoic rocks.
