1. Some types of numbers I've heard about are: whole numbers, fractions, negative numbers, infinite numbers, irrational numbers, rational numbers, improper fractions, imaginative numbers, radical numbers, unknown numbers, etc.

2. I think it important to group or separate numbers out in order to apply them to the categories they apply to.
