South America is the continent south of north America bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. The continent spans two hemispheres in that the northern section is in the northern hemisphere and most of the continent is in the southern hemisphere. The continent lies between 15 degrees north and 60 degrees south.
