If a hippopotamus can run at the speed of about 24.9 mph, the hippo can run _ mph in 30 minutes.
Using the proportion, we have to figure out x. x is the speed the hippo can run in about 30 minutes. In order to figure this out, we have to divide 24.9 by 2. We're basically diving this in half, because half of 1 hour is 30 minutes. And the answer we get after dividing is 12.45.
So here's how we would use the proportion:
24.9 mph/1 hour = 12.45 mph/30 minutes.
