The kangaroo mother care, established in Bogota, Colombia is a skin-to-skin
contact between a mother and her newborn. This procedure helps infants interact with their parents and regulates their temperature, among other developmental benefits. It assists the infant in maintaining an organized state, and decreases pain perception during heelsticks. This practice fosters increased potency and an improved breastfeeding experience as the infant matures. It has also been proposed as a substitute to conventional neonatal care for low birthweight (LBW) infants. It is the most appropriate mediation and cost-effective measure for caring for stable, low birthweight infants in very resource-limited settings.
