The correct answer is After mitosis, the cells will still have 46 chromosomes. Immediately after mitosis and cytokinesis (cell division), the cell has 46 chromosomes that have one chromatid (this is in G1). During S phase, the DNA replicates itself, so that now the cell has 46 chromosomes that each have two chromatids (this is where the doubling comes in).
