Read the word problem below. A parking garage charges $3 for each of the first three hours. After three hours, the charge is $7 an hour. What is the total cost for five hours of parking? Which strategy that would help solve this word problem?

$3 x 3hrs = $9
$7 x 2hrs = $14
$9 + $14 = $23
The total cost would be $23
The best strategy would be to multiply the money and hours and add the totals.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any further assistance!

First you would do 3*3 = 9

Then there would be 2 hours left so do 7*2 = 14

So this would be how it looks with no words

3*3 + 7*2 =

Then you do 14 + 9 = 23

So your answer is $23

Hope I helped :)
