It has progressed from pity to widespread acceptance. In the past, people with disabilities could be expected to be coddled at best, they were written off as lost causes. But disability rights advocates have championed for inclusion, and today, thanks in part to the ADA, the Americans with Disabilities act, they are able to lead full and fulfilling lives in American society.
