Why did the state of Georgia begin auctioning off Cherokee land in 1828?

Hey there!

They started giving away Cherokee land because they wanted people to move out west(westward expansion) and the gold rush.

Around that time the Gold Rush was going on, and they wanted to mine gold on Cherokee land. Hope this helps!
