Europeans set their rights on Asia mainly because of trading and profit.

Europeans wanted new goods such as spices, fabrics, gold etc.
They also wanted to spread the 3G's: G-D (christianity), Gold (riches), and Glory (fame and a large empire). I hope this helped!
