a = 12
Length times width = area
L · w = a

( (2)/(3) )w · w = 12

( (2)/(3) )
w^(2) = 12
Divide both sides by
(2)/(3) or mulitply both sides by
(3)/(2) (either one is fine)

( (2)/(3) ) ÷
( (2)/(3) )
w^(2) = 12 ÷
( (2)/(3) )
or

( (3)/(2) )
( (2)/(3) )
w^(2) = 12
( (3)/(2) )

w^(2) = 18
Square root both sides to get rid of the squared on the w

\sqrt{w^(2) } =
√(18)
w = 4.24
