Because of the curvature of the Earth, a 2-D map cannot accurately represent the correct size of different landmasses, distorting them.

Answer:

Maps are instruments of communication, they serve to graphically represent a given area of terrestrial space. Maps and cartograms do not aim to represent all the information present on the surface, but only what the author wants to demonstrate.

Therefore, the maps can be divided into several types and their classification varies according to the topic treated. For this reason, it is called thematic maps.
