Why was it a mistake for General Cornwallis to move his troops to Yorktown?

It was a tactical error because he retreated into a peninsula which basically meant that there was no escape for him and his people so he got trapped and caught. He couldn't go further back because there was water and he had enemies coming from the continental mass so his entrapment was inevitable.
