according yo john smith why does powhatan doubt that smith wants peace with the indians? what does powhatan want smith and his people to do?

Because Powhatan people suspected that John Smith was the leader of the Englishmen who wanted to take over their land, so they decided to capture and imprisoned john smith.
They first wanted them to leave, but later on decided on a trade compromise that Powhatan would provide the colonist with food
