The correct answer is: "US and England".

After decades of testing prototypes and defining standards, the first commercial telegraphs were available around 1840. At this point, many projects were executed in order to lay telegraph connections among numerous parts of the world.

One of the companies that were founded during this period was the Atlantic Telegraph Company in 1856. It was based in London. After nearly a decade of work, the connection between England and the United States was made on July 18th, 1866.
