Women often served as spies during the Revolution. Since women were already employed as cooks and maids, they had access to areas and conversations that were rarely available to men during wartime. After doing so, the women could report the intelligence they gathered to the commanders without fear of reprisal, because most women at the time were viewed as non-threatening.
