The colonists in America after the revolution created a document that devolved the power away from a central executive and made sure that the individual states had sufficient voice in drafting and ratifying laws. With the Articles of Confederation and later the Constitution, there were safeguards put into place that limited the power of the Executive away from the wholesale authority that was found in the English monarchy.
