How does a corporation’s investment in a political or social agenda affect its duty to its shareholders?

The investment might turn off some shareholders who might be interested in other political or social avenues. With the main goal being to turn a profit, investing in a divisive cultural issue or agenda might cause the investors to fear public reprisals against the company for doing so.
