n+8+n+−12

Combine Like Terms:
n+8+n+−12

(n+n)+(8+−12)

2n+−4

Your final answer would be 2n−4

(n + 8) + (n - 12)

Get rid of the parenthesis.

n + 8 + n - 12

Note : the (12) turns into a negative because a negative times a positive is always a negative :)

Combine like terms.

(n + n) + (8 - 12)

Simplify.

2n - 4
