Matter that is not used by consumers in the food chain become "detritus". Which is simply just waste. It is left to decompose.

Answer:

Material not consumed by consumers in the food chain generates the debris chain.

Step-by-step explanation:

Debris chain, where the basis is non-living organic matter not consumed by consumers, is due to the decomposition of vegetable and animal bodies and their droppings. This matter is processed by decomposing microorganisms (fungi and bacteria), which release it in the form of plant nutrients, or in the form of debris that will be consumed by detritivorous organisms, in turn consumed by carnivores.
