The Ku Klux Klan often took drastic, and violent actions towards the blacks. Making it very hard for many of them to survive in a safe manner.

Answer:

Ku Klux Klan is the name adopted by several organizations of the extreme right in the United States, created in the 19th century, immediately after the Civil War, and which mainly promote the supremacy of the white race and, therefore, racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism, as well as homophobia, anti-Catholicism and anti-communism. Frequently, these organizations have resorted to terrorism and violence, such as murder and lynchings, and acts of intimidation such as the burning of crosses, to impose their criteria and oppress its victims.
