Why was a union at Vicksburg so important for the north?

The union of Vicksburg was important for the North, because it was one of the Confederates strongest forts, and was the last step in completing the Anaconda Plan. While Vicksburg still stood, the North didn't have control of the River, and so the Confederates could still supply both the West and East via Vicksburg
