Joint-stock companies found profitability in monopolizing one cash crop led to the development of one crop economies.

One-crop economies dedicate to the practice of monocropping, in other words, the agricultural practice of growing a single crop year after year on the same land. Soybeans, corn and wheat are three common crops generally grown using monocropping techniques.

When practicing monocropping, the farmers can use the same seed, pest control, machinery and growing method on their whole farm giving them a larger yield for a greatly lower cost.
