The type of pathogen is a bacteria, specifically Streptococcus of group A.

Strep throat, or streptococcal throat infection, is an infection caused by a bacterium (a microbe), group A streptococcus. It is more common in children.

Sore throats are not all caused by strep throat. In general, children who have strep throat suffer from the following symptoms:

* Big sore throat

* Difficulty swallowing

* Swollen and sensitive ganglions in the neck

*Fever
