Miguel is 46 years old. He is 4 years older than thrice his son’s age. Find the age of his son.Solution:Age of Miguel = 46 yearsAge of Son = x yearsSo, 46 = 4 +3xSubtracting 4 on both sides, 42 =3xDividing by 3 into both sides, X =14Therefore, the Son is 14 years older.

Set x as Joe's (current) age, and y as Mary's age (current). We can start building equations; x = y - 2 + 10, or x = y + 8. Now, from the second statement, x - 2 = 2(y - 2). Substituting, we obtain y = 10, and x = 18.
